A New Series Is Coming!

In 2019, I wrote a prequel novella set in the Federation Chronicles universe. Ever since then, I’ve felt that Elias Browning’s story was incomplete. That novella needed to become something larger. For years, I let the idea sit on the back burner while I worked on other projects, but Elias Browning wouldn’t leave me alone.

This year, I finally decided it was time.

If you’ve read my other books, you probably know what drives me as a storyteller: characters worth caring about, relationships worth fighting for, and the belief that life is worth living and saving. Across more than forty books, I’ve explored the tension between good and evil, the hard decisions that define us, and the sacrifices people make for those they love.

That’s what I look for as a reader, and it’s what I try to deliver as a writer.

With Federation Chronicles, I explored the aftermath of a galactic war that changed everything. With Browning’s Gambit, I wanted to go back and explore the career of one of the most influential figures at the heart of that history. Elias Browning begins here as a newly minted captain facing impossible choices, but his journey will reach far beyond a single ship, a single battle, or a single world.

My plan for this series is to follow Browning through a time of enormous change in a far-future galaxy. Alliances will be made. Star nations will rise and fall. Friends will become legends, enemies will become necessary allies. But how does one newly minted ship captain become one of history’s most hated figures?

At its heart, this is a story about courage, loyalty, sacrifice, and the cost of defending freedom when the lines are not always as clear as we wish they were.

Commander Elias Browning’s career was all but over. Then command of a warship was thrust into his hands at the worst possible moment.

He wasn’t supposed to be in charge. But abandoning his crew was never an option.
When a powerful enemy discovers a hidden colony world, Browning is ordered to stand down and let it fall. Millions of lives sacrificed to keep the peace.

He refuses.

Outgunned and alone, Browning breaks from the chain of command and takes his ship toward a confrontation he isn’t expected to survive. Victory will cost him. Failure will cost more than the colony.

But the colony holds more than civilians. Somewhere inside, a brilliant young scientist has built something no one fully understands. Something that could be Browning’s only edge. If the enemy gets it first, everything that follows is already decided.

Now he has to hold together a crew that didn’t choose him, work with an intelligence agent he doesn’t trust, and face an enemy that has never lost.

Somewhere ahead, the enemy’s most dangerous warship is already hunting him.

And winning will take the kind of thinking that nearly ended his career.

First Colony Returns

The wait for the next First Colony book is almost over!

The Vemus don’t just conquer worlds. They corrupt them from within.

When intelligence reveals evidence of a Vemus Star Probe on the alien world of Edolus, Major Ethan Gates leads a covert strike team to capture it. They must act fast. If the Vemus harness the probe, they can create a new Alpha—an elite commander capable of crushing the Kevoryn’s decade-long resistance in one catastrophic blow.

Nothing on Edolus is what it seems. The Kevoryn are closer to extinction than their own leaders will admit, and every advantage Ethan brings—his team, his hybrid soldiers, even the captive Vemus construct he’s kept in chains—has already been accounted for by the enemy. The Vemus are smarter, more coordinated, and always one step ahead.

The Star Probe is within reach. The Alpha can be stopped.

But some prices, once paid, can never be undone.

February Update – First Colony News

Quick update about First Colony Book 20.

First the book is still at 70% completion. My intention was to finish the book and release it in the latter  half of March. This date is going to be pushed by into April. Earlier this month on the 14th my father died. He was 83. My wife and I, my sisters and their husbands, two of my nieces, and my mother were in the hospital and were fortunate to be able to say goodbye. I won’t go into a lot of details. I’ve been blessed to have had a really good father and we were close. This whole experience has been both beautiful and terrible at the same time. It also has strengthened my faith in God. I have zero doubts that I will be reunited with my father one day, and I look forward to that day.
Over the next couple of weeks I will finish First Colony Book 20, and anticipate that it will be released in April. No sooner than mid-April.
My father was a huge First Colony fan. He loved Connor and the other characters. I am sorry that he won’t enjoy the eventual end of the series. Book 20 is definitely not the end of the series, nor will book 21 be the end either.
I usually post my book release schedule for the year and the beginning of the year. I’m late with this. I plan to write another First Colony book this year, after book 20 is complete. I also plan to release a new series this year. I like to rotate between two series. I have two candidates or ideas for the new series I plan to write this year. I’m leaning heavily toward one of those ideas, and I’m almost completely committed to it. However, I like a little wiggle room in case something changes my mind.
Thanks for reading. Happy February….

What’s the new series?

I wouldn’t leave you guys hanging about that. Confession time. I have an intense dislike for short fiction, even though I’ve written some short stories and a novella. It’s the novella that really gets me, because it has always felt like an unfinished novel and in this case series. In 2020 I wrote a novella called Acheron Rising, it was a story set before the events in the Federation Chronicles. I’ve always entertained the idea of going back and completing the story, and make it into a series. It’s been on my mind a lot lately. So that is my plan. I don’t have a series name for the “new” series, but that’ll come with time. I’m actually very excited to write that story. There is something about two friends who have a profound effect in history that shape the world to come. I just feel that this is a story that needs to be told. I sincerely hope you’ll join me for this journey.
Side Note: Why not write more in the Ascension series. That’s going to be a solid maybe in 2027. At this point I will not close the door on anything.
