This month I have both a new book release and an audiobook release.
Acheron Salvation – Federation Chronicles Book 2 is now available.
Quinton Aldren thought he could leave his past behind him . . . He was wrong.
First came the development of a Personality Matrix Construct—PMC, transferring human consciousness into a machine. It changed the galaxy and the way wars were fought. Then something went wrong with PMCs and the Federation Wars toppled the galactic order. PMCs became a menace to be hunted and exterminated.
Long after the Federation Wars, the galaxy limps on. Spacers carve out an existence upon the bones of the old worlds, but things are about to change . . . something has begun broadcasting signals to reactivate PMCs that were stored in secret.
Quinton Aldren is a PMC. His consciousness was uploaded and stored over a century ago, before the Federation Wars. All Quinton wants is to leave his past behind, but the broadcasts keep occurring. More PMCs are coming online, and not all of them are entirely stable. Federation War machines are on the hunt for them, and they don’t care who gets in their way.
Invasion First Colony Book 11 is now available as an Audiobook!
For years, Connor and others in the colony have unraveled the mysteries of New Earth and the global catastrophes that nearly destroyed its previous inhabitants. Their work led to the discovery of other worlds beyond the known universe.
It became clear that many of those worlds had been attacked by an interdimensional invader that left untold amounts of manipulation, hardship, and annihilation in its wake. It’s only a matter of time before the colony becomes the next target.
When a trusted ally requests Connor’s help to investigate claims of new widespread invasions, he has no choice but to help. Connor believes that the only way to stop the invader is to find their homeworld, but its location is a closely guarded secret. Many civilizations sought to discover the invader’s homeworld and none have succeeded.
Time is running out for the colony, and Connor and a team of CDF soldiers may be the only thing that stands between and annihilation.
As always, thank you for reading and listening to my work.
~ Ken
When will book 12 be released. I love the series.
Thanks. Around mid-July.
Hey Ken- First, a heartfelt “thank you” from a guy in Dallas, Texas you’ll never meet in person. But make no mistake, you’ve played a significant role in my life. It involves a five broken ribs, a collapsed lung, and a week in the ICU…alone. Except…I wasn’t…
Okay. Without being melodramatic, precisely how have you, oh noble author, become more than an anonymous scribe to me?
Short Version: My 85-pound lab, Molly, burst through the door. We tangled, I fell awkwardly and the full weight of my middle-aged frame landed squarely on the corner of the coffee table . . . with my chest. Yup. Now, I’m in a busy ER. The doctor is trying to explain why a pneumothorax (a.k.a. collapsed lung) is a “medical emergency” and why he’s transferring me to the ICU, and why I’ll be getting a chest tube. (Not fun.)
Slightly Longer Version: Ken, the next six days were filled with pain and fear. The first two chest tubes didn’t work. My condition became semi-critical. Honestly, the nights were the worst. I was alone. I was in pain. Yea, I was scared. So, again and again, I flipped on the iPhone and turned to my First Colony friends, Connor, Sean, and the whole gang, cheering as they did battle with the creepy Vemus, celebrating as they beat the crap out of those Krake bastards. Kidding aside, Ken it was really comforting to be swept along by the camaraderie, the shared struggle, the selfless sacrifice, and to see the power and beauty of genuine friendship. I guess what I’m trying to say is this: I didn’t feel as alone…or as scared…because of you. Without sounding kinda gay, I appreciate you “being there” for me. You may not think that writing a sci-fi opera can touch or change people’s lives. But it can. I know it’s true. Why? Because you did that for me. I just wanted to say Thank You. Respectfully, – Scott
P.S. Now get back to work on FC #12 dammit. I care too much about these people you’ve created to end with #11 Invasion. What happens next? What about the second colony?
Wow, Scott, I hope you’re feeling better. That injury sounds rough. I’m glad the First Colony series brought you some respite through such challenging times. I’ve been in the ICU before, it’s a scary place.
First Colony 12 is finished and is going through the editing process. Only a few more weeks until release.
Thanks for sharing this experience. It’s gratifying to know that the characters have resonated with you.
Kind regards,
Ken
Dear Ken- Thanks for your quick response. (How cool to actually talk with an author?) I’m thrilled to hear that FC #12 is in the hands of your editor. My first book (non-fiction) took much longer to revise and edit than to write the dang manuscript.
Regarding my ICU visit, yes, I’ve made a full recovery. Thanks for your concern. Hope your ICU stay is but a distant memory, and that you’re in good health.
And yes, those characters in the First Colony books seem like real people to me. Don’t you think it’s easy in sci-fi to get lost in all the fancy technology and military strategy? Deep character development can get lost in the shuffle. But when I think about Connor Gates, for example, I actually CARE about him. I want him to WIN. And this may sound childish for a man of 52, but I’d actually like to be more like Connor. How weird it that? And with the Ascension series, I felt kinda like I was “part of crew.” When I finished the last book in the series, I remember just sitting in my study for a good 30 minutes. I think I was saying goodbye.
