IMPULSE – First Colony Book 12, Now Available For Preorder

Over the years, Connor has pieced together evidence of a mysterious group of aliens who roamed the multiverse and have been to New Earth.

Setting off to make new discoveries about them is straightforward enough, but this is New Earth, and Connor Gates has a knack for finding trouble.

For over twenty years, Connor and Diaz have been friends. They’ve survived two wars and have seen the best and the worst of each other. When a terrorist attack takes the life of Diaz’s son, their friendship will be pushed to the breaking point.

To find who is responsible, Diaz is willing to cross as many lines as it takes. Connor will do everything he can to protect his friend, even from himself. It’ll take everything he’s got to find who is responsible while preserving a peaceful coexistence with New Earth’s inhabitants.

Sometimes protecting your friends is a lot tougher than fighting your enemies.

It’s Already April!

Both February and March slipped by without me posting anything. This happens when I’m nose-deep writing a book. I pulled back from social media and just kept working. I find that taking a break from the internet is necessary for me from time to time. It’s like fasting, but from information overload. I highly recommend it. I have a few updates, though.

I finished writing Acheron Salvation – Federation Chronicles book 2 and I’m really pleased with the book. It was a lot of fun to write and get to spend time with these characters again. Feedback on the story has been great. Check this out.

Quinton Aldren thought he could leave his past behind him . . . He was wrong.

First came the development of a Personality Matrix Construct—PMC, transferring human consciousness into a machine. It changed the galaxy and the way wars were fought. Then something went wrong with PMCs and the Federation Wars toppled the galactic order. PMCs became a menace to be hunted and exterminated.

Long after the Federation Wars, the galaxy limps on. Spacers carve out an existence upon the bones of the old worlds, but things are about to change . . . something has begun broadcasting signals to reactivate PMCs that were stored in secret.

Quinton Aldren is a PMC. His consciousness was uploaded and stored over a century ago, before the Federation Wars. All Quinton wants is to leave his past behind, but the broadcasts keep occurring. More PMCs are coming online, and not all of them are entirely stable. Federation War machines are on the hunt for them, and they don’t care who gets in their way.

Acheron Salvation will be released on April 9th. The audiobook will be available in May, so not that long of a wait. I can’t wait to work on the 3rd book in the series, which I plan to write later this year.

More Updates

Audiobook update for Invasion – First Colony Book 11. Scott Aiello is recording it now and it should be available in early May. There was a delay with Scott’s schedule, which pushed back the release date for the audiobook.

What's Next?

I’m starting work on First Colony Book 12. I plan my books out before I start writing them so I’m in the early stages of this project. I’m aiming to release this book by mid-July.

Enjoy the spring and hopefully get some fresh air. Thanks for reading.

A New Year and a New Book Release

As this is my first post of the new year, I will state a few of my goals for this year. I plan to write four books this year. Two of those books will be in the Federation Chronicles series, and two books will be in First Colony.

In 2020, I released three books.

  • Insurgent – First Colony Book 10
  • Acheron Inheritance – Federation Chronicles Book 1
  • Invasion – First Colony Book 11

I’d initially planned to write more books in 2020, but unless you’ve been living under a rock, there were quite a few things going on in the world that certainly impacted my schedule—not to mention my focus. 2020 was a challenging year, but I’m hopeful that 2021will end on a more positive note than 2020 did. It’s too easy to get politicized about anything, and I’m not going to here, but I will say that I have faith in everyday people. One of the themes I like to write about in my stories is how change and growth aren’t easy and certainly not comfortable. This is why I’m hopeful that we learn from our mistakes and gain a little bit of wisdom moving forward.

Enough of that stuff.

I’m hard at work on Acheron Salvation – Federation Chronicles Book 2 and plan to release it on April 2nd. Pre-order is available here.

Federation Chronicles is set thousands of years in the future when humanity has spread among the stars. At its core, the new series is about people and interesting technology set against a galactic backdrop.

Last month I released Invasion – First Colony Book 11, and the feedback has been very positive. I began writing First Colony back in 2017. The story is set a few hundred years in the future. It’s about humanity’s first interstellar colony mission told through the experiences of Connor Gates, a former NA Alliance officer who was shanghaied onto the colony ship. Three years and 11 books later, we see not only Connor’s story but a cast of interesting characters that many readers have reached out to tell me about their favorites. It’s humbling, and I truly appreciate it.

Scott Aiello will begin recording the audiobook for Invasion sometime in February, and I hope it will be available by April.

I have a new boxset and audiobook available and discounted for a limited time. Ascension Series: Volume II – Books 4 – 6 is available in ebook, print, and audiobook (22 hours!)

Earth’s time is running out!

Sixty years ago, a plan was conceived to help humanity survive its first contact with an alien race. Now it’s time to put that plan to the test. No country can stand alone. The world must unite if there is to be any hope of survival.

The crew of the Athena are investigating an ancient alien signal from beyond the fringes of known space. After months of searching, the Athena is starting to wear down. It’s only a matter of time before a catastrophic failure destroys their ship, but if the crew returns to Earth now, humanity will not survive their first contact with hostile aliens. They must find the source of the signal, and with it, a means to end this war before it has a chance to reach Earth.

Strap yourself in. The Ascension Series: Books 4 – 6 includes the final three books in this action-packed space opera series. A journey that began when the brave crew of the Athena left Earth to investigate an alien structure discovered in the furthest reaches of the solar system will now come to an end.

Also available on audio!

To celebrate the release of the new Ascension series boxset, I’ve also discounted the first boxset Ascension Series: Volume I – Books 1 – 3.

So that’s it. I’m hoping for the best in 2021, and I hope to provide a little escapism throughout the year.

Thank you for all your support, and I hope you all have a safe and healthy new year.

New Book Release – Invasion – First Colony Book 11

Invasion – First Colony Book 11 will be released on December 23rd. You can pre-order it on Amazon today

Here’s more about the book:

For years, Connor and others in the colony have unraveled the mysteries of New Earth and the global catastrophes that nearly destroyed its previous inhabitants. Their work led to the discovery of other worlds beyond the known universe.

Many of those worlds had been attacked by an interdimensional invader that left untold amounts of manipulation, hardship, and annihilation in its wake. It’s only a matter of time before the colony becomes the next target.

When a trusted ally requests Connor’s help to investigate claims of new widespread invasions, he has no choice but to help. Connor believes that the only way to stop the invaders is to find their homeworld, but its location is a closely guarded secret. Many civilizations sought to discover the invader’s homeworld and none have succeeded.

Time is running out for the colony, and Connor and a team of CDF soldiers may be the only thing that stands between survival and annihilation.

Please note that the paperback will be available on December 23rd. The audiobook is forthcoming and is expected to be released by April 2021.

October Checkin

First, I love this time of year. Fall in Pennsylvania with the leaves turning colors and cooler weather is fun. Campfires all around.

Announcements

A new audiobook is available for pre-order for the Ascension Series Boxset Books 1-3. The audiobook is almost 24hrs long, so it’s a bargain for a credit if you’re looking for something to listen to. The audiobook will be released on November 3rd, so something to look forward to on election day.

Status or as I like to call it in my books – Sitrep.

I’m making solid progress writing Invasion – First Colony Book 11. I plot my books before I write them, and this book required extensive plotting before I started writing it. I know back in May, I wrote that I expected to have this book done and released by now. I wish that was the case, but it’s not. It’s looking more like a December release for this book. I expect to finish writing it in about a month. After this, the book goes into the trusted hands of my editor and proofreader. This process takes about 3 weeks, and right smack in the middle of all this is Thanksgiving. I'll do the best I can and I'll post another update next month.

One of the most common questions I get about the First Colony series is whether this book (Invasion – First Colony Book 11) will be the last book in the series?

Do you guys really want the First Colony series to end?

No, it’s not. However, I will say that Invasion will wrap up a major series arc in the story that has been building up over multiple books. I plan to write more stories in the First Colony series. I really enjoy writing stories in that universe, and as long as readers enjoy reading them, then it’s a good fit for everyone.

What’s next?

Finishing Invasion is the most important project on my schedule. Then I’ll be writing Acheron Salvation – Federation Chronicles Book 2. I’m aiming for a springtime release (March). And after that, I’m not sure. I will either work on First Colony book 12 or Federation Chronicles Book 3.

AND after all that. I’m not lacking story ideas, but one that’s been on my mind is writing a First Colony spin-off series about what happened to Earth after the Ark began its 200-year journey. I have a few ideas I’m considering, but that’s one of them. The timeframe to begin working on whatever series I decide to write is at the end of 2021. I hope that 2021 is a much better year than 2020 has been.

Some final thoughts for this month.

September was a busy month for me with the release of Acheron Inheritance. The response to the new series has been great, and I’m looking forward to writing the next book in the series. I was wondering how many people really wanted to read about a guy trapped in a robot body. It's a fun story.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t admit that all the things happening in 2020 has impacted my writing schedule. This has been a challenging and extremely frustrating year for a lot of people. I’ve unfollowed or snoozed so many people on Facebook that my feed is mostly advertisements. Way too much political, fake news, and just general negativity in posts. I think they call it polarization. I have a love/hate relationship with social media. It’s great connecting with people I wouldn’t normally interact with, but there’s also a lot of negativity and frustration out there. I try to limit both in my personal life.

My wife and I recently watched an interesting documentary on Netflix called The Social Dilemmahttps://www.netflix.com/title/81254224 I highly recommend watching it, especially if you’re a parent. I worked in IT for about 20 years, so I was aware of many of the backend technologies that make social media work. But even with that technical background, it was still shocking to see the long-range repercussions of a recommendation algorithm and how addicting social media is. The tools were probably made with the best intentions, but there is the law of unintended consequences. I write about themes like that in my books. You know, the earliest computer virus was a prank. I think the documentary is worth watching, and it just might get you thinking about current events from a different perspective.

Alrighty, I need to get back to writing Invasion. See you next month.

Stay safe and healthy.
